Sowden is the design studio of George Sowden, co-founder of the Memphis Group. Known for bold colour, wit, and a distinctly anti-minimalist spirit, Sowden collaborates with leading designers to create lighting and objects that are as functional as they are beautiful.

The Peak Pendant is a lit shape of handblown glass supported beneath a small conical form. The cone can be installed in either the pointing-up or pointing-down position. The ceiling canopy is an identical conical shape, mirroring the form of the pendant itself. The glass diffusers are available in two shapes and both “dipped” glass, featuring the SkLO double-dipped flame-polished mouth, and “textured” glass, featuring a soft, frosted finish and subtle sculpted vertical ridges. The Peak Pendant offers numerous possible configurations and personalities. It is not just one single pendant design, but many.

The Peak Sconce/Ceiling light is a small conical form which fits against the wall or ceiling supporting a lit handblown glass diffuser. The glass diffusers are available in two shapes and in both “dipped” glass, featuring the SkLO double-dipped flame-polished mouth and “textured” glass, featuring a soft, frosted finish and subtle sculpted vertical ridges.

The Pebble series celebrates the inexplicable and beautiful qualities of stones. Enhancing their simple yet sculptural form through translucency, glass-blown shapes endlessly evolve in shape as they appear from different perspectives.

Each glass form is connected to the mounting surface with a machined aluminum LED holder and heat sink; allowing the form to sit close to the surface—while housing the electrical connection.

Pelleossa is a slender, eclectic chair that expresses its character through detail. It is inspired by the Italian chairs of pre-industrial times, sporting the attitude of conceptual art. Also available with armrests, it completes with the different combinations of the seat.

Introduced in 2013, this year we revisited it with the rushed seat, an archetype of the vernacular tradition throughout the world. We use the checkered weave to rush the seat, a strong method that distributes the weight evenly across the surface.

With this new version, Pelleossa is destined never to grow old, paying homage to Chiavari chairs ancestral imagery.
