DESIGN: Staffan Holm.

In Japan I noticed the very strong visual aspect of using Kumiko, Screens that can be ornamental but also used as privacy screens in restaurants. Inspired by the traditional Japanese kumiko screen-craftsmanship, these cabinets combine semi see through screens and a very well crafted cabinet to create an interesting composition and light placed inside will give a warm feeling to the room making the whole cabinet into a lamp of sorts. - Staffan Holm.

We choose to build this chair together with the craftsmen, taking bits and pieces from different items that had character, and worked towards refining the proportions and details, creating an “Outline” drawing in 1:1 which was then used to produce the prototype. It was an enjoyable and effective work process with an outcome that has both classic and modern influences. - Norm Architects.

The solid wood legs and table top tapers from a thickness of 20mm to 5mm, giving a sense of incredible visual lightness. This is emphasized by the small gap at the base, lifting the table off the floor and letting a sliver of light through.

The Saga chair is an effort to find harmony in a small lounge chair with a great seating experience. A seemingly oversized seat lends to the visual comfort of the chair. Still the chair is rather petite in size and fits well into smaller spaces. The presence of the chair is a combination of Japanese humbleness and Scandinavian material sensibility. In Norwegian the word Saga refers to the ancient stories of the North. With this chair we are writing a new story from Saga prefecture.
