The Ariake chair, armchair and bench product family is made with the harmony of both hand work and advanced machining. Its form combines classical and new joinery details, and the seat can be woven with leather strap, canvas strap, paper cord or covered with a leather seat pad or washable fabric seat pad. This versatility makes them highly compatible to a variety of interior spaces.

Inspired by traditional Scandinavian armchairs, the Holm chair combines a robust construction and a high level of comfort. The levitating feeling of the seat gives this chair a light feeling and a friendly appearance that will blend well in any environment. Great attention has been placed on the connection detail between the armrest and the legs of the chair.

While attending the Ariake design workshop in Saga – we found many interesting details within the factory, assembly line, storage and showroom. We choose to build this chair together with the craftsmen, taking bits and pieces from different items that had character, and worked towards refining the proportions and details, creating an “Outline” drawing in 1:1 which was then used to produce the prototype. It was an enjoyable and effective work process with an outcome that has both classic and modern influences. - Norm Architects.

Just as with all Muller van Severin´s designs, transparency is key and so the rocking chair swings through space without ever covering the background.

DESIGN: Anderssen & Voll for Ariake

The Saga chair is an effort to find harmony in a small lounge chair with a great seating experience. A seemingly oversized seat lends to the visual comfort of the chair. Still the chair is rather petite in size and fits well into smaller spaces. The presence of the chair is a combination of Japanese humbleness and Scandinavian material sensibility. In Norwegian the word Saga refers to the ancient stories of the North. With this chair we are writing a new story from Saga prefecture.
