There is an ancient theory that accounted for lunar phases in a different way than we do today. This theory held that the Moon was in fact flat. One side of the Moon was silvery-white, the other side was black, and it was the orbiting of this half-black, half-white Moon around the Earth that caused the lunar phases.
Blue skies is a table lamp composed of a silver base and a Hinoki wood and Tosa-Washi paper reflector. A projected light beam is shot upwards from the base and is caught by the paper shade positioned at an angle directly above. A reflected, meditative glow on a floating disc, highlighting the texture of the paper’s structure. A simple balancing gesture of capturing light which would have otherwise been lost.

The 1002 Hans Pendant Light XL is Vaarnii's super-sized re-engineering of Hans-Agne Jakobsson's iconic 1960s design. After re-engineering the original Hans pendants, Vaarnii understood that the design's innovative lightweight construction could be extended even further. The 1002 XL uses the same concentric circles of veneer and sophisticated interior structure of solid Finnish pine as its smaller siblings — but tests the limits of lighting manufacture with its scale. At 70 cm wide, it brings maximum impact to interior spaces with its brutal scale and metres of finest pine veneer. More softly filtered light, more pine surface, more imposing.
